Are Women Born This Way?

Denise's Tart

Denise, our recent Anything-with-Chocolate contest winner, shared these tarts with us last week. Denise has three kids and a husband in Iraq. I don't know where she finds the time or the ENERGY.

Denise used a packaged cookie mix for the crust. She pressed the cookie dough into muffin tins and baked at 375 degrees for 8 minutes. For the cream cheese layer she mixed 2 packets of Splenda into a tub of cream cheese. She topped with some sliced strawberries, mandarin oranges, peaches and blackberries. Needless to say, it was super ono.

How Smart is Your Right Foot?

From Noreen. Sooo funny.

You have to try this please, it takes 2 seconds. I could not believe this!!! It is from an orthopedic surgeon... This will boggle your mind and you will keep trying over and over again to see if you can outsmart your foot, but you can't. It's pre-programmed in your brain!

1. Without anyone watching you (they will think you are GOOFY...) and while sitting at your desk in front of your computer, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number '6' in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction.

Stress Test

Girlfriend Mona e-mailed this to me today.

None of these images are animated - they are perfectly still. They are used to test the level of stress a person can handle. The slower the pictures move, the better your ability of handling stress. Criminals that were tested see them spinning around madly; however senior citizens and kids see them standing still.

The Last Airbender Teaser Trailer

For Squeaky Clean Dishes

Apparently, it's common knowledge . . . and in fact it's pretty much common sense . . .
that to get your dishes squeaky clean, especially those greasy "disposable" containers . . .
you need to use the SPONGE SIDE. Hey, I nevah know.

Landon's Pasta

My son made dinner tonight. As you can tell he didn't get his cooking genes from me.

He didn't follow a recipe so the following is kinda what he did.

Fry about 5 to 6 thick-sliced bacon until cripsy. Remove from pan. Squeeze out the meat from the casings of about 4 Italian sausages and fry in the bacon oil. Add sliced mushrooms and onions, saute. Add chopped garlic. While still hot, pour over raw spinach. This will cook the spinach. Pour 1 can chicken stock, 1 pint whipping cream and about 1 cup milk into the pan and heat. That's the sauce. Prepare the pasta.

Wild Ginger

Wendell and I went to check out Wild Ginger at the corner of 9th and Waialae in Kaimuki.

Wild Ginger serves Thai, Malaysian and Chinese food! They open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
This is the Wild Ginger Combination - it had spring roll, summer roll, soft shell crab and crab cake ($9.95).
Calamari Salad with lime/miso dressing ($7.95). I really liked this. Wendell thought it was only okay. We actually got this dish for free 'cause they have a special now where your third dish (the cheapest of the three) is free.
Grilled Crusted Salmon ($13.95). The sauce and all the vegetables were really ono, but somehow the fish itself was kinda bland to me.
Pad Thai with tofu ($7.95). We had a choice of mild, medium or spicy. I chose medium, but boy was it hot. We brought most of it home for Landon.
If you want to order take out, the number is 738-1168.

Leslie's Pics - MRI Magnet Installation

Yeoh & Muranaka recently purchased a 1.5T Toshiba MRI scanner. The main component to the machine, a 4 1/2 ton magnet, arrived over the weekend. Because all of Kona Street needed to be blocked off for the delivery of the magnet, it had to be done between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. As much as I wanted to be there my old body just couldn't make it. Luckily, Leslie was there to document the progress. She did an outstanding job. Check out Leslie's pics.

My Dad

This is me with my mom and dad.
My dad was a career army man. He passed away at 41 years of age of what the government called a service-connected disability. I never did understand why they classified it as that because he had cancer of the thymus. A few years ago my brother explained that he probably got the cancer from the Agent Orange that the U.S. used in Vietnam where my dad did two tours.

Clay's Cake

My good friend Sue threw a surprise Kanreki party for her husband Clay at the Honolulu Country Club last Saturday.

It was a very nice celebration with friends I hadn't seen in ages.
Sue ordered a beautiful, elaborate cake from Cake Works. It was decorated with two cranes, a turtle, some bamboo plants on the right and sakura flowers on the left. I'm sure it cost a pretty penny. I offered to pick it up for her.
